Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh is rightfully considered one of the most famous Orthodox thinkers of the twentieth century, and his few visits to Russia each time became real events in religious life. It so happened that a man who lived far from his homeland, but constantly thought about it and prayed for it, spoke about something that resonated in the hearts of many people around the world as something of his own, dear and understandable. Having read countless lectures throughout his life, holding conversations and sermons, he never wrote his speeches in advance – his life itself, his invaluable accumulated experience, were the preparation for them. When published, the texts of Anthony of Sourozh always underwent only minimal editorial processing so that the living word of the bishop was preserved.
