For two thousand years, the Eleusinian Mysteries were the heart of the ancient world.

Initiation was open to everyone – men and women, adults and children, free and slave, if their hearts were pure and their minds clear. Otherwise, the doors of Telesterion could remain closed even to the emperor. What happened at these mysteries is still unknown – countless people who passed through them over thousands of years remained silent, not revealing the secret to the uninitiated.

Adventurers of all sorts tried to penetrate them and find out the secret, liars and scammers spread wild rumors, bishops and preachers of Christianity tried to discredit them, scientists speculated, magicians and mystics tried to penetrate them secrets.

What do we know? What don’t we know? And how can a secret known to countless initiates remain hidden until now?

This book presents two views on this issue: the Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge of England, Dudley Wright, initiated into many secret knowledge – and George Mylonas, an archaeologist and historian who devoted his whole life to the excavations of Eleusis, studying every stone in it.
