The novel is a story about how a young Eastern woman tries to adapt to European life. It reveals her deepest feelings and desires, which she is afraid to admit even to herself. The lines of the work reveal the longing for the homeland and the nostalgic feelings of the writer. The life of emigrants who moved from the Russian Empire to France in general is described. Despite the fact that the novel is autobiographical, it reflects a number of important moments of emigrant existence.
