“Very Distant Tartessus” is a novel by Soviet science fiction writers Evgeniy Voiskunsky and Ilya Lukodyanov, written in 1968. Plot: the authors describe the semi-mythical country of Tartessos, which once, approximately 2500-3000 years ago, existed on the southern shores of Spain. The main characters are the Greek merchant George and his sailor Diomedes, who arrived on a ship with cargo in Tartessus in the hope of making good money by buying weapons for which this country was famous. In the book, the authors put forward their hypothesis of the death of the Tartessian civilization. They believe that the legendary city of Tartessus was once founded by the surviving inhabitants of Atlantis and still keeps its secrets. The narrative is structured in the form of an adventure story: the main character, the freedman Gorgias, sails from Greece on a merchant ship with the sole purpose of obtaining the necessary weapons, for which Tartessus is famous, for the war with the Persians. However, already on the way to the Pillars of Hercules, he unwittingly becomes a pawn in a complex political game that will completely turn his life upside down.
