Victor Konetsky worked on this book in 1968-1974 on sea and ocean voyages. The trilogy, united under the general title “For Good Hope,” was published in magazines and published in separate parts under the titles: “Salty Ice,” “Among Myths and Reefs,” “Sea Dreams.” Memories of sea voyages, voyages through Russian waters and to the shores of distant countries. This lyrical narrative contains reflections on the past and present, tragic and funny, everyday and heroic. Many stories are structured as a “dispute of heroes with themselves” – raising the question of the meaning of life, testing a person in practice, in difficult situations. Konetsky Viktor Viktorovich (1929 – 2002) – Soviet and Russian writer, screenwriter, sea captain. Konetsky’s childhood and youth were connected with the Admiralty Canal in the historical part of St. Petersburg. The beginning of the Great Patriotic War found him with his mother and brother in Ukraine. In August, the Konetskys were able to reach Leningrad, and soon an encirclement ring closed around the city and they spent the hardest, first winter of the Leningrad Siege there. From 1953 to 1955 he served on the ships of the 441st Separate Division of the Northern Fleet Emergency Rescue Service. Subsequently, some of his observations formed the basis of the short story “The Path to the Pier” and the film of the same name. In March 1955, Viktor Konetsky was demobilized, and already in May, as captain of the MRS-823, he participated in ferrying ships along the Northern Sea Route from Petrozavodsk to Petrosk-Kamchatsky. This was the first ever passage of a van of small vessels in the Arctic. He has been on voyages in various areas of the World Ocean from the Arctic to the Antarctic, in ports of different countries of the world, and has traveled the Northern Sea Route fourteen times.
