Авторы не задавались целью в столь краткой статье осветить все аспекты, связанные с культурой и историей древнего Пскова. Они ограничились анализом псковской живописи, пытаясь определить общий смысл эволюции псковского искусства с XII по XVI столетие. Границы этого периода обусловлены самой историей города – до XIII столетия мы не знаем памятников станковой псковской живописи, а в XVI веке Псков теряет свою политическую независимость и вместе с ней и все особенности своего искусства. Летописи не сохранили ни одного имени псковского живописца, жившего до XVI столетия, также они ничего не рассказывают об особенностях развития псковской живописи. The authors did not set out to cover all aspects related to the culture and history of ancient Pskov in such a short article. They limited themselves to analyzing Pskov painting, trying to determine the general meaning of the evolution of Pskov art from the 12th to the 16th centuries. The boundaries of this period are determined by the history of the city itself – until the 13th century we do not know any monuments of Pskov easel painting, and in the 16th century Pskov lost its political independence and, with it, all the features of its art. The chronicles have not preserved a single name of a Pskov painter who lived before the 16th century, and they also do not tell anything about the peculiarities of the development of Pskov painting.
