One of the most interesting historical works of the early Byzantine era – “Ecclesiastical History” by Evagrius Scholasticus – covers events that were critically important for the Byzantine church and state in the second half of the 5th – late 6th centuries. The book vividly and vividly presents the era from the reign of Theodosius the Younger, Markian and Leo the Elder (from 431 to 474) to the reign of the Byzantine emperors Justin II, Tiberius Constantine and Mauritius (from 565 to 594). The corrected translation is provided with a detailed introductory article and extensive reference materials – comments, indexes and a list of the latest literature. The appendix contains excerpts from texts that served as sources for Evagrius – Zechariah the Rhetor, John of Malala, John of Rufus, Nestorius, as well as the chronicles of John of Biclare, John of Nikius and Michael the Syrian.
