The Vedas are the main manifestations of the culture and religion of India, one of the countries where enormous importance is attached to spiritual life and the development of human spiritual qualities. But the Vedas are not so easy for Westerners to understand. The Puranas, the valuable historical records of India, were compiled with the aim of explaining the teachings of the Vedas and Vedanta to the common people in the language of fascinating myths and legends. They describe the historical events of creation and evolution, which are selected and presented in such a way as to illustrate basic philosophical truths. Puranas are historical narratives about divine personalities, great rulers and dynasties, the destinies of kingdoms and societies, stories relating to gods and their relationships with people. The purpose of the Puranas is to disseminate and preach the meaning and content of the Vedas. The Puranas were written after the Vedas, they are not older than the Vedas, although the stories themselves may precede the historical appearance of the Vedas in time. The Puranas are stories with a great element of the miraculous in them, demonstrating the power of divinity in its many manifestations and its mission of protecting dharma and destroying adharma. Therefore, it is so important to study the Puranas, which reveal the fundamental truths in the most simple and understandable way.
