During the years of severe persecution of the Church in the first half of the last century, the rector of the Moscow church of St. Nicholas in Klenniki there was a priest Sergius – the son of the famous elder in the world Alexy Mechev. It was under him that the Marosei community turned into a penitential and liturgical family that managed to maintain spiritual unity after the temple was closed and the priests were expelled or arrested. In prayer, worship, and filial and respectful attention to the tradition of the holy fathers, Father Sergius saw the path of salvation – both for the Christian believer and for the entire church.
