В настоящее издание вошли пять трактатов Галена — выдающегося римского врача и философа II–III вв., создателя теоретико-практической системы, ставшей основой развития медицины и естествознания вплоть до научных открытий XVII в. Его сочинения содержат ценные сведения по истории медицины протонаучного периода. Каждый трактат сопровождается комментарием, в котором представлен историко-медицинский анализ основных идей Галена. Представленные в издании сочинения являются характерным примером связи общетеоретических, натурфилософских взглядов Галена и его практической деятельности как врача, демонстрируют прекрасное владение эмпирическим методом и навыками синтетического мышления, основанного на принципах рациональной медицины. Методология, предложенная в издании, позволяет показать взаимовлияние натурфилософии и медицины и комплексно осмыслить историческое значение работ Галена.

Galen: Galen. Essays. Volume V

This edition includes five treatises by Galen, an outstanding Roman physician and philosopher of the 2nd–3rd centuries, the creator of a theoretical and practical system that became the basis for the development of medicine and natural science until the scientific discoveries of the 17th century. His works contain valuable information on the history of medicine of the proto-scientific period. Each treatise is accompanied by a commentary, which presents a historical and medical analysis of Galen’s main ideas. The works presented in the publication are a typical example of the connection between Galen’s general theoretical, natural philosophical views and his practical activities as a doctor; they demonstrate an excellent mastery of the empirical method and the skills of synthetic thinking based on the principles of rational medicine. The methodology proposed in the publication allows us to show the mutual influence of natural philosophy and medicine and comprehensively comprehend the historical significance of Galen’s works.
The fifth volume continues the series of publications, the preparation of which, including translations from ancient Greek, was carried out with the participation of the Foundation for the Support of Classical Studies. The work on the volume was carried out within the framework of the Russian Science Foundation project No. 18-78-10018 “Problems of bioethics in the historical context and sociocultural dynamics of society.”
