“Vasily Shukshin. Selected works in 2 volumes” is a collection by Vasily Makarovich Shukshin, compiled from works from different years. The first volume includes short stories and the film story “Kalina Krasnaya”. The second volume contains the novels “The Lyubavins” and “I Came to Give You Freedom.” The novel “I have come to give you freedom,” included in the first volume, is a broad historical canvas containing a true story about the complex and dramatic events of the Cossack uprising under the leadership of Ataman Stepan Razin. The second volume of selected works by Vasily Shukshin consists of short stories and novellas. The publication presents, for example, such stories as “Freak”, “Mother’s Heart”, “Alyosha Beskonvoyny”, “Gogol and Raika” and others. Also published in this volume are the following stories: the fairy tale “Until the third roosters”, the story for the theater “And in the morning they woke up…” and the film story “Kalina Krasnaya”, which gave the name to the whole volume. The book was published in 1976 by the Molodaya Gvardiya publishing house.
