Arsenyev Vladimir Klavdievich: In the Ussuri region

Vladimir Arsenyev devoted most of his life to the study of the Far East. Even during the author’s lifetime, the region began to change – dense forests thinned out, the roar of a tiger was replaced by the roar of a steam locomotive, and large Russian villages grew in place of small Chinese fanzes. But on the pages of Arsenyev’s prose, the unique nature of the Far East comes to life in its primeval beauty. In living literary language, with close attention to the smallest details, Vladimir Klavdievich describes his wanderings through the hills and taiga, depicts the unique nature of the region and the customs of the people inhabiting it. “Across the Ussuri Region” is Arsenyev’s first work, which describes his travels of 1902 and 1906 in the mountainous regions of Sikhote-Alin.
