In Old Testament times, God gave people the Ten Commandments in order to protect them from evil and warn them about the danger that sin brings. In the New Testament, the Lord Jesus Christ gives us the gospel law, the basis of which is love. He does not cancel the observance of the Ten Commandments, but supplements them. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives nine beatitudes, which no longer speak about the prohibition of sin, but about how to achieve spiritual joy, what virtues bring a person closer to God. The word “blessed” itself does not simply mean “happy.” Blessed are those who receive blessings from God.
